ALBA aims to consolidate the SUCRE

(Montevideo, 11.12.2014). The countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of America and the Trade Treaty of the Peoples (ALBA-TPC) today celebrated ten years of integration in Uruguay, a country awaiting their early formal accession to the Unique System of Regional Compensation (Sucre) for trade.

"Over a year ago Uruguay applied for membership to the Treaty and are waiting to be ratified soon by the Uruguayan Parliament," explained to EFE Venezuela's ambassador in Uruguay, Julio Ramón Chirino, during a reception at the Venezuelan official residence of Montevideo.

Chirino said that, after its establishment ten years ago, the ALBA-TPC seeks to consolidate the model of the sucre, which means, "trading between their countries without the intermediation of foreign currency from a virtual currency."

This is a "pool" of different currencies of the trading countries, whose respective Central Banks compensates every six months, "regardless of how is the balance for each of these nations," he added.

Venezuelan Ambassador noted the importance of income from Uruguay in the sucre by the volume of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and because "expand trade" between the countries of the ALBA-TPC without using foreign currencies.

This virtual currency "allowed to trade faster, reducing the waiting time between importers and exporters and eliminates currency risk", ascertained Chirino, who said it was not a "bilateral system," because it opens the doors to trade with the many countries of the ALBA-TPC.
